Mark Shaw’s anger could be heard all around Sandy Lane after the final whistle on Wednesday night - despite watching his side win in the Sheffield Senior Cup.
The Worksop Town boss was furious at his players for not maintaining their recent performance levels, even if they squeezed past Staveley with a 2-1 win.
Explaining his disappointment, Shaw said: “They were lacking a winning mentality, or they think because it’s a change of competition they can relax a bit.
“We’ve set high standards over the last four games, based around hard work, endeavour and tonight they stopped doing what’s made them a good team.
“It’s frustrating, we could have ended up with extra-time, being worried about tiredness.”
Shaw wants the entire squad to buy into his way of playing, every time they step out onto the pitch.
“It doesn’t matter who plays, it should be of a high standard every game.
“And I don’t care who we play, it’s irrelevant - I want us to win, I want the players to enjoy it, the fans to enjoy it and us to play the right way.
“There’s no point having 19 good players in the squad who turn it on when they wish.
“The football pitch should be their sanctuary to go and make something special happen every time they play.”
