Worksop Town supporters are invited to an open training session to meet their new 2014/15 squad.
Boss Mark Shaw is opening up Saturday morning’s training at Manton Athletic Club to the club’s fanbase, so they can start to get to know the players who will wear Tigers colours when they kick off in the NCEL Premier Division.
Shaw told the Guardian he’s been pleasantly surprised by fitness levels in the pre-season sessions he’s hosted thus far, and said he was starting to turn his attention towards football based work.
“I think they’ve worked harder than last year’s group so far, and in this year’s group I’m seeing a lot of fitter players, which is a surprise,” he said.
“We’ve started to work on the way we will play and I’ve been really impressed with that.”
This year’s squad already has a strong local flavour, with Worksop players like Jack Barnett and Tom Mullen signing.
But pre-season training has had a transient feel, as a number of players have gone to try their luck elsewhere.
Shaw said: “The frustrating thing is when you search out a player and then a big club comes in and he goes to see what it’s like.”
“We’ve lost a lad to Boston, lost a couple to Matlock and Gainsborough, it’s very frustrating.”
“Players are going to see what it’s like, willing to travel 30 minutes more to give it a try somewhere else.”
The club has invited fans to arrive at Manton Athletic Club on Retford Road around 10.30am on Saturday.
