Dinnington’s gritty performance unrewarded as they fall to Harworth defeat

Another gritty performance went unrewarded, as Dinnington Town were beaten 2-0 by Harworth in the Central Midlands Black Dragon North Division on Saturday.

The Phoenix Park defeat was somewhat undeserved and Dinnington cannot be faulted for effort.

Both sides were playing good passing football, and on 10 minutes Chris Kirk saw his cross elude everyone but the ball was cleared.

Barely two minutes later a 20-yard effort from Kyle Skeldon was held by visiting keeper Steven Wibberley.

Not to be outdone Lee Edmondson headed over the bar moments later.

As time passed it seemed only a matter of time before Dinnington broke the deadlock.

Kyle Bowskill forced a fingertip save from Wibberley on 32 minutes, however disaster struck when, from the resulting clearance, Matt Bradley raced clear to put Harworth ahead.

As the half drew to a close Skeldon fired wide with only the keeper to beat and Josh Shepard also went close for the hosts.

The second half continued with Dinnington pressing forward at every opportunity and Josh Shepard, Town’s Man of the Match, seeming to be popping up everywhere on the pitch.

The more the game wore on Town pressed forward for the equaliser.

But they conceded again on 87 minutes when a loose ball was put into an empty net by Gareth Sides.

The result didn’t reflect the effort shown by Town, who deserved a share of the spoils.

Dinnington, who sit 14th in the table, will hope to bounce back when they travel to face Ollerton Town this Saturday at 3pm.
