Bassetlaw Boys won the County Seven-a-side Championship in a thrilling duel with the City of Nottingham Boys.
The four team tournament began well when the Bassetlaw A squad comfortably beat the Nottingham B squad with two early goals from Jaden Thackery.
The B squad lost 3-2 to the Nottingham A squad but scored two goals through Harvey Rogers and Jacob Reynolds that proved to be vital in the final countdown.
The B squad then showed once again that there is a great depth of talent in Bassetlaw when they defeated their own A team, Ethan Hibbert scoring.
The final games began with both Bassetlaw squads and the Nottingham A squad in with a chance of the title, but with all depending on Bassetlaw winning the battle of the A teams.
Bassetlaw B failed to reproduce their fine form of the morning as they went down to Nottingham’s B squad.
With time running out and the two A squads locked at 0 – 0 the St John’s pair of James Mallender and goal machine Jaden Thackery combined to produce a last minute winner that gave the title to Bassetlaw.
Bassetlaw now qualify to represent Nottinghamshire in the Midland Counties Finals in March and a chance to play for a place in the National Finals.
The Bassetlaw Girls leagues are beginning to take shape with County Championship runners-up East Markham jointly heading Division One with Haggonfields.
East Markham took their tally to seven points as the result of a 2-1 defeat of Sturton-le-Steeple with two goals from Leah Markham to a single reply from Holly Warner, while Haggonfields kept pace with a Cyra Green hat-trick and two from Saskia Macefield against the same opposition.
Gamston are clear leaders in Division Two after Kenya Longden and Ella Atkins were on target in the defeats of Everton and Harworth, while St John’s have drawn level with Sir Edmund Hillary in Division Three after a 3-0 success against Ordsall courtesy of goals from Lily Edwards (2) and Kelsey Hurcombe.
Redlands are looking stronger match by match and now head the fourth division after Olivia Chambers and Phoebe Carr hit the winning goals against closest rivals Prospect Hill.
