Retford United have this week announced there will be a new structure at the club in a bid to keep Brett Marshall on as manager and increase revenue.

The club is to install a new First Team Committee that will be involved in all first team affairs.

This new structure will look to give the first team a solid foundation to build from for the future of the club.

Daniel Keeton will chair the committee with vice-chair Jon Knight and Annie Knight taking up the role as secretary.

Keeton, who has over 15 years experience in non-league football, said he was honoured to be chair of the First Team Committee.

“Retford United is a club and team that has got under my skin since first coming to watch in 2004,” he said.

“I am aware over recent years that there have been ups and downs, both on and off the pitch, and I hope the introduction of a committee can stabilise the situation off the pitch so fans can return in their numbers and concentrate 100 per cent on getting behind Brett and the team.”

“With the right structure and high level of local support the Badgers can become a stronger more durable team in the future.”

The rest of the committee will include people with valuable experience from all aspects of the club.

The club hope links between the first team and junior sections will evolve with a plan of juniors progressing to be the flagship team in the future.

New funding possibilities are to be looked into to give the senior section the stability it deserves at this level of football and beyond.

Badgers chairman Bill Wyles said: “I am delighted Dan has accepted the role of chairman of the new committee, and along with Jon and Annie Knight will form the basis of an excellent committee to take the club forward.”

“Dan brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of non-league football which can only benefit the club.”

He added: “I, for the time being, will remain as club chairman but will not be on the new committee, who will be responsible for running all aspects of the first team in the future.”
