Worksop Town’s game with Athersley Recreation on Saturday is a must-win encounter, according to Tigers boss Mark Shaw.

League leaders Tadcaster will be taking on fellow title hopefuls Heanor at the same time, giving Worksop the chance to gain a points advantage over one of those clubs.

He said: “Athersley is massive.”

“We’ve got the same games as Tadcaster, we’re four points behind.”

“Tadcaster or Heanor will drop points this weekend so the Athersley game is a big game, we need to make sure we win it.”

For the first time in many years Tigers will have no traditional Boxing Day or New Year’s Day football.

But Shaw won’t miss the festive fixtures.

“I think the supporters will miss them, but I won’t,” he said.

“You spend your Christmas looking at what you can do and can’t do.”

“Here we can enjoy a couple of days of family time.”
