Dinnington Town returned to winning ways on Saturday, with a comfortable 3-0 win at Dronfield Town, after the hosts were reduced to 10 men.
Steve Toyne was able to welcome back Danny Lindley, Simon Duckworth and Ivan Ya Ya Mayala, but Town were without Greg Ramsden, Connon Flannery and Martin Wade.
The first real incident of note came after 19 minutes when Dronfield were reduced to 10 men for a last ditch tackle on Lindley.
It was arguable, however, whether or not this was a clear goal scoring opportunity and a yellow card might have been a more appropriate punishment.
It was an outcome which eventually changed the nature of what had until then been an even game.
Town then proceeded to dominate play but without creating any clear cut chances.
Dronfield were always dangerous on the counter attack but the teams went in level at half-time.
The second half started with another controversial decision when a home defender was adjudged to have handled a close range shot.
Liam Cartledge’s penalty was easily saved but he was on hand to follow up and score from the rebound.
Ten minutes later, Town’s keeper Sam Jepson needed to be at his best to deny Dronfield with a point blank save.
This was to be the home side’s last real threat as Dinnington’s man advantage played a greater part in the game.
The result was put beyond doubt with the introduction of Lanzel Reid whose pace was a constant threat to the home defence.
On 81 minutes he caused Daniel Wood to turn the ball into his own net and followed this up three minutes later with a goal of his own.
Town end March having won five of their seven outings, a month that has seen them stretch clear of the NCEL Division One relegation zone to secure safety.
With the season end fast approaching, Town are on the road again on Saturday when they travel to Hall Road Rangers for a 3pm kick-off.
