Derby win at Green Lane

Aston Hall claimed a win over near neighbours and reigning champions Treeton at Green Lane, in the South Yorkshire Premier on Saturday.

The visitors were invited to bat first and got off to a solid start with Scott Cunningham top scoring with nine fours in his 53.

Danny Kemp scored 33 and skipper Chris Cobb added 40 as Treeton ended their innings on 185 for 9.

Gary Steele claimed his best figures of the season with 6 for 22 off his nine overs for Aston.

The Aston innings didn’t get off to the best of starts as their first two batsmen left with 12 runs between them.

Opener Joe Barker scored a solid 33 before being stumped.

Carl Tiler and Ashley Rhodes added 67 for the fourth wicket before Rhodes fell for 28.

Tiler remained undeterred and carried his bat to a successful conclusion with 58 not out, including three fours and two sixes.

He was well supported with a swashbuckling knock from Juan Grobbelaar with 23.

Aston reached their target with four wickets and 17 balls to spare.

In Division One, Aston Hall B suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Kexborough.

Kexborough batted first against at Bence Lane.

Michael Jepps and Adam Wiles added 104 runs for the second wicket.

When Jepps left with eight fours and 54 runs to his credit.

Wiles stayed until had reached 70 and his boundary count was 10 fours and a six.

Kexborough posted a total of 195 for 5 in their 50 overs.

Tim Shaw took 3 for 32 for Aston.

The visitors were in trouble from the start and half their batsmen were back in the pavilion with the score at 29 for 5.

Matt Shephard (21) and Gareth Jones (26) staged a revival but eventually Aston were all out for 98.

Robert Mynett with 3for 40 and Andrew Moore, who mopped up the tail, with 3 for 6, did the main damage.

Division Three side Maltby thrashed Millhouses B.

Skipper Carl Porter hit 51 as Maltby amassed 170 for 5.

In response Millhouses were 48 all out, Gary Mills (5 for 34) and Liam Woodward (5 for 9) taking the wickets.
