Over 36 years of service to the sport of cricket has earned Ordsall Bridon stalwart Gareth Jones some deserved recognition.

Jones was praised for his outstanding service to grassroots cricket by former England player and coach David Lloyd, who presented him with a special coaching certificate during the first Ashes test match at Trent Bridge.

Jones was invited to attend the test as part of the Sky Sports ECB Coach Education programme.

Fourteen coaches met with Lloyd during the lunch break at Trent Bridge, all of whom were being acknowledged by the programme’s ‘Reward and Recognition’ scheme.

Jones has been involved with recreational cricket for more than 36 years.

He recently achieved the Level 3 qualification on the programme, being the first amateur coach to do so in Notts.

At Ordsall Bridon he is chairman, secretary, junior and senior coach.

In the junior section, he coaches U11 and U17 sides.

And he also manages the Bassetlaw representational side and Northern Notts District U14 team.

A delighted Jones said: “I am very humble and honoured to be recognised.”

“Everything about it was great, including meeting the other coaches here. There are plenty of good people in the game.”

The Sky Sports ECB Coach Education Programme aims to attract and train coaches at all levels of cricket in England and Wales, developing coaching skills from playground to test arena.
