Clumber Park defied the weather to pull off a stunning win – in between rain showers – against Everton on Saturday.

Having won the toss and asked Everton to bat, the victory was set up by a superb bowling display, led by ever improving Callum Rutherford (4 for 22).

The visitors lost four early wickets to the new ball but steadied the ship through Campion to reach 70 for 4.

However Mark Dean (3 for 20) continued his bowling renaissance to remove the middle order.

Fine supporting spells from Dave Beard (2 for 16) and Chris Spittlehouse (1 for 19) dismissed Everton for 115.

With rain loooking imminent the Clumber run chase began under leaden skies at 6pm.

But with the Beard brothers, Ward and Spittlehouse all dismissed in the quest for runs and the score at 43 for 4 Clumber’s hopes looked over when another rain delay arrived.

However, in a dramatic finale the home side found a hero in Warren Rhodes (52*) who bludgeoned his way to a match-winning half century.

With support from the unflappable Matt Wheatley (33*) Clumber made a late surge towards their target as the drizzle came and the light faded.

At 8pm in the gathering gloom, Rhodes duly hit the winning runs to ensure Clumber were the only side in Division One to record a victory on a day heavily disrupted by the rain.
