Cartwright hits century in close loss

Aston Hall were narrowly beaten by Treeton, who moved to the top of the Premier Division.

After Aston elected to bat first, opener Matthew Carwright collected 12 fours and a six on his way to an excellent 104.

He became the eighth wicket to fall and stumper Ashley Rhodes supported with a quick fire 34 to enable a final total of 246.

The final wicket fell on the final ball of the innings for Treeton to collect two important bonus points.

Treeton’s challenge began with a second wicket partnership of127 between Stephen Foster who hit 12 fours in his 73, and skipper Scott Cunningham, whose 57 included six fours.

They both left with the score at 138 and wickets began to fall after that.

It was left to Irfan Mirtza to steer them home with 48 not out.

Treeton won with two balls to spare and the last pair at the wicket.

Josh Coulson almost pulled it off for Aston, claiming three of the final four wickets to fall with a return of 4 for 72.

Aston Hall now sit sixth in the Premier Division table, after 10 games.

In Division Three, Maltby went down to defeat at the hands of Whitley Hall, the side directly above them in the table.

Phillip Fletcher top scored with 34 in Maltby’s innings of 132, but they fell well short of Whitley Hall’s total of 194 for 7.

Maltby lie eighth in Division Two.
