Campion’s runs bring victory for Everton

Everton beat Firbeck at home, thanks to a 129-run effort from G. Campion.

Firbeck asked the home side to bat and started well, J. Hubball (2 for 67) removing dangerman J. Mimms (25), and A. Dutton (2 for 41) removing E. Moulds (34).

At drinks Everton were 70 for 2, but a flurry of dropped catches allowed Everton back into the game and Campion’s 129 runs took the bowling attack apart, well supported by H. Eldred (28) and R. Chambers (28*) to post a very good 269.

In reply H. Eldred (6 for 44) ripped the Firbeck top order away with some fine pace bowling.

J. Hubball (11) and K. Mckeeman (15) got to double figures but were unable to push on.

S. Barson (17) fell to D. Leach (1 for 17) and a complete rout looked on the cards.

However T. Barker (72) ground out an innings and manipulated the tail to add valuable runs, until he also fell to Eldred to leave Firbeck beaten on 159 all out.
