WORKSOP Gym Club has finally achieved its ambition of a dedicated gymnastics training venue with its recent move to the 'Elephant Hut' on Welbeck Estate.
The club is now planning to develop the facility into a centre of excellence for gymnastics in the north of the county, with the only other permanent facility being at Rushcliffe, South of Nottingham.
As well as allowing for extra classes for both boys and girls, the improved training venue is already seeing huge rewards for the elite gymnasts.
The girls are learning new skills at a phenomenal rate now that they have extra time and space to train and this has been reaping rewards, with an excellent start to the competition season and many medals won at both county and regional level.
Hannah O’Grady, aged 11, is a perfect example, having qualified for her first National Championships.
She competed at the British Grades Finals in Birmingham at the end of April where she put on a creditable performance.
Hannah is the youngest member ever from the club to compete at national level.
In modern gymnastics it is a necessity to have this kind of facility if you want to compete at the national level.
One of the club’s main objectives at the moment is to raise funds for a competition sprung floor area so that it can host competitions, but at a cost of around £18,000 this is going to be no mean feat.
If anyone can help or is willing to sponsor the club in any way or would like more information about the club, get in touch with Dawn Connolly, Club Administrator, on 07785 940089.
