Carnation Cup Quarter-finalsPETER Eyre is still on course to appear in his third ever final in this season's Carnation Cup, after he and partner Matthew Lemon won through to the semis after
defeating Nigel Stent and Jack Tarr 4-1.
Eyre won the tournament in 2003 and 2007 with his then partners Bobby Shahidi and Russell Kemp.
Partner Lemon defeated Stent in the opening game 22-24, 21-11, 21-12.
Eyre then defeated Tarr in straight sets before the two teams faced each other in the doubles, with Eyre and Lemon winning convincingly.
Lemon out-gunned Tarr, while Stent drew some consolation by defeating Eyre in the final match.
Current holder Jon MacDonald and his new partner Peter Cowburn narrowly beat Richard Wesley and Laura Williams 3-2 in the shock result of the week.
Wesley won both his games for the losers, but the crunch came in the vital doubles game when MacDonald and Cowburn won in the deciding third set to progress to the semi-final with both players netting one each in the singles.
Andy Lee and Matthew Williams enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 victory over Helmuth Osbourne and Derek Cowburn and could be the dark horses of the competition.
Again it took three sets to overcome the opposition in the doubles, but Lee (2) and Cowburn (1) did enough in the singles to go through.
Finally, two new names are in the frame for the semi-final after Carl Stones and George Agnew defeated the experienced Joe Else and Phil Hall 3-2.
Else took both games for the losers, while Stones and Agnew won one each in the singles before teaming up to win the all important doubles.
The semi-finals will take place during the week commencing 30th November.

LAST season's winners Redlands Fluffy Toys are through to the First Round Proper following a 37 points win over the Lions of Rhodesia.
Steve Fox and Richard Wesley hit top form after netting the maximum 126 points, while Thomas Wesley secured a place in the next round by adding a further 119 points.
Phil Beresford, Mick Johnson and Brian Rimmer never gave up on the cause but fell by just two points per game.
Third Division's Redlands Rookies took on the might of Division One's Humpties, but achieved a surprise win by a large margin.
Derek Piper, Peter Cowburn and Kyle McIntosh provided the heroics, surprising the Humpties James Grayson, Aiden Keyworth and Laura Robinson.

REDLANDS Runners are beginning to hit a little form before the Christmas break and their 8-2 win over the Adders moved them up into third place in Division One.
Ably led by Sam Walker, who bagged another excellent treble, the team tasted success when Matthew Dodds netted another fine maximum.
