The victory was even more deserved as they lost Mike Nocivelli in the eighth game through an arm injury.

Sarah Perks hit top form prior to the English Open when she defeated Terry Curran, Piotr Sliwa and Sarah Short.

Phil Beresford, who started the season quite brightly, took two more with Nocivelli adding a five set win over Short before he retired.

Perks and Beresford wrapped up the points for the Lions when defeating Short and Sliwa in a thrilling five set doubles encounter.

The Roosters replied through a Curran double and one from Sliwa, while Short was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet after taking both Nocivelli and Beresford into a deciding fifth set and losing out to Perks in four.

The Fluffy Toys and MBE jointly lead Division One following the latest set of results, with both teams remaining undefeated after four matches.

The Toys registered a narrow 6-4 win over the Outlaws thanks to an impressive treble from Richard Wesley.

His brother Thomas added a win over Dave Gascoyne, while Dennis Learad – playing up from Division Two – gained a four set win over Helmuth Osbourne.

The Toys then sealed the points after winning the doubles.

Ernest Mpundu, playing his first ever game in the Worksop League for the Outlaws, will be pleased with his start after recording wins over Thomas Wesley and Learad, while Osbourne and Gascoyne chipped in with one each.

MBE were involved in a 6-4 win over the Roosters, with Mick Bell starring with an excellent treble.

Straw added a further two with Mark Stanfield adding the vital one which gave them victory.

Chris Cattell battled hard for the Roosters in reply winning two out of his three games, while Piotr Sliwa took one before gaining a straight sets win in the doubles with partner Cattell.

It must also be noted how well Callum Shutt performed after being included in the Roosters line-up from Division Two.

Three teams share the top spot in Division Two; The Bees, The Outsiders and The Joggers with both the Bees and the Outsiders hitting nine against Manton Sports and Manton Tigers.

The Joggers however crept home with a narrow 6-4 win over Stanley Street.

Nigel Stent and league debutant Joe Zygadlo won three each for the Outsiders with Alex Milward adding a further two before he partnered Zygadlo to a doubles success.

Dave Bowns spared the Tigers from the embarrassing whitewash.

The Bees captain Joe Else and Brian Allen hit hat-tricks in their match with the Sports, while Joanne Drew made a welcome return to table tennis after a few years out, with wins over Phil Fisher and Keith Smith.

Allen and Drew wrapped up the points by winning the doubles with just John Lowde taking one in reply, but it was enough to spare his team's blushes.

The Joggers were made to fight for their 6-4 win over Stanley Street in an entertaining, but highly competitive atmosphere.
