A VERY well organised and youthful side travelled to Worksop on Saturday to inflict the worst defeat of the season so far on the Stubbing Laners.

MIDLANDS THREE NORTH (EAST)
Worksop 5
Oakham 25

The loss shows that there is more work to be done on the training pitch.

Worksop will hope for a better performance away from home in the Notts Cup on Saturday.

They take on West Bridgeford at 2.15pm.

Worksop II 13
Creswell 12

WORKSOP'S seconds had to quickly rearrange their fixture, due to Ollerton having other commitments.

Thanks to fixtures secretary Liam Beard, Worksop played a home fixture against Creswell.

The kick-off was delayed due to traffic problems, which meant the referee had to go and supervise the first team game.

Even though young David Piddington was injured, he ensured he didn't miss out on a game and stepped in to referee.

Worksop again had to make a few changes from last week, but were still running confidently and with the welcome return of game maker Gary Smith, things were beginning to fall in place.

It was a very wet and windy afternoon and Worksop knew it was going to be a hard fought game.

From the kick-off it was Worksop's big pack, with veteran Neil Hopkinson, Barrie Peach and captain Nigel Peach getting them off to a good start.

Strong rolling mauls by the Worksop forwards saw scrum-half Smith drive over for a try.

This seemed to spur Creswell on and with their fast backs and support play, they scored a good try which was converted.

The half-time score was 7-5 to Creswell.

The referee turned up for the second half, relieving Piddington.

Creswell started better and it was not long before the pressure resulted in them scoring another good try.

With time running out Worksop starting doing what they are good at and great position play from stand-off Arron Bainbridge put Worksop in the opposition's 22.

A disallowed try brought a scrum that allowed Louis Robinson to score.

Creswell defended well late on but a penalty outside the 22 gave Bainbridge a chance to win the game for the hosts and he made no mistake.

Man of the Match awards went to Wayne Bibby and Dave Bennett for playing for the opposition.

Many thanks again to Dave Piddington for standing in to referee.
