THE first flat green bowls competition of the new season was held on Saturday at Worksop Bowling Club on Newgate Street.
More than 16 members entered the Sam Smith Shield and the matches were played in good spirit, over 12 ends.

Last year's winner Anne Richards was knocked out in the quarter-final round.

The semi-finals were between Ken Butlin and new member Robert Edson, Diane Burridge and Charles Emsen.

The final was a close match between Diane Burridge and Ken Butlin with just a single point in it.

Ken Butlin was crowned the 2008 winner and was presented with the shield by president George Hyslop.

The club is always looking for new members both young and old.
