WE would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to junior and cadet team coach Doreen Butt who has been honored by the NFA with the East Midlands coach of the year title.
Any one who knows Doreen will be aware of the hours of commitment and support she gives to the youngsters and this recognition is a well-deserved tribute to her dedication in making fishing accessible to all youngsters in the area.
Staying with the junior scene Doreen, along with husband Garry are taking the youngsters for their annual sponsored fish on the high school/Asda length of the Chesterfield canal this Saturday.
This event is used to raise much needed funds for the junior section of Worksop & DAA with the youngsters meeting at 9.30am at the Asda overspill car park.
Any one wishing to sponsor or participate should contact Doreen on 01909 770546 or can turn up on the day and offer their support.
Next on the junior scene we are putting the final touches to the preparation of the junior mini series and at the time of writing there are still a few places left available so if there is any youngster who is interested please register at any of the area's three tackle shops to avoid disappointment.
The final preparations for the annual inter schools match are also being finalised and we are awaiting confirmation from just two schools and we are expecting a full turn out of 120 competing for the title of 2008 schools champions.
The event is to be run again in conjunction with Daiwa Hallcroft, Worksop & DAA and will be held on 16th July at the Retford complex and will be fully covered by the Worksop Guardian.
Any one wishing to fish in this competition can only do so via entry through there own particular school so have a word with your teachers if you wish to participate in this event.
Due to limited space we will be reporting comprehensivly on Worksop & DAA's annual general meeting which was held last Thursday, in next week's column.
