Yes Fred you were spot on (letters 14th March). Local councils use legalised blackmail and intimidation to extract the maximum from the motorist.

Just imagine the public outcry if any other service used the same criteria and demanded payment on entry; such as entering the supermarket, customers were required to pay a fixed sum in advance and then on reaching the checkout find they are over the sum deposited and they are fined 10/20 fold the deposit paid they would be out of business in hours but, not so local authorities who are cocooned in the dictatorial bureaucratic bubble.

So Fred Foster and all Bassetlaw voters, should petition their MP John Mann who, is quite vociferous in parliament to apply the same principle to car parking; ie pay on exit as is used at Bassetlaw Hospital and many local authorities throughout the country.

Councils, however cash-strapped should collect their revenue by fair means not by extortion and blackmail.
