LETTER: In need of football photos from 1920s

1920s Footballers
1920s Footballers

I have been researching the Worksop Town FA Cup run of 1922/23, when a team containing nine working miners beat two Division Three teams and gained an exceptional goalless draw at White Hart Lane against Tottenham
Hotspur.
My aim is to produce a book and accrue material for a talk, with the additional aim of working with a play-writing friend on a script for a possible local dramatic production. Any profits would go to the club.

The story is very well documented and I have already discovered a significant amount of detail about the players, and the supporters’ successful weekend in London, in addition to information about the games leading up to their remarkable, against the odds, performance which was national news at the
time.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who is in possession of photographs or artefacts pertaining to football in the 1920s or anyone who remembers hearing anecdotes from their parents or grandparents about football in Worksop in this era.

The game was filmed and shown over a number of weeks at the Gaiety Cinema in Worksop, but, as far as I know, has not survived.

I am also in interested in speaking to anyone who is involved in amateur dramatics in the town who might be interested in working with us on a production which will probably evolve as a musical comedy/drama.

I can be contacted via email on: johnstockspoetry@hotmail.co.uk
