A Worksop snacks company is enjoying a feast of success after securing a grant to help kick start the business.
Homemade Indian nibbles company, Karkli, was set up by Kumar Kolar of Gateford in 2013 when the ex-London dentist decided he was hungry for a new challenge.
Kumar said: “I was simply sat at home one evening and I just decided to do it and got working on it straight away.
“It was a recipe that I was aware of since I was young and I thought why not try and take it further.”
After receiving an enterprise grant from Bassetlaw Council, Karkli has grown and diversified to supply spicy lentil snacks to pubs throughout the region.
Before receiving the grant, Kumar was cooking his snacks in his mother’s kitchen, unable to keep up with demand.
The funding has now allowed Karkli to move to a unit at Welbeck Abbey, adjacent to the School of Artisan Food.
The business has also invested in market research and launched three new vegan-friendly flavours this year.
