Worksop: Compete against Tour de France cyclists for charity

A local cancer charity has organised a cycling event whereby a team of businesses will compete against professionals riding in the Tour de France.

The Aurora charity cycling event, Bonjour Bawtry, is taking place on 5th and 6th July in the Bawtry market.

The budding cyclists will race against each other on Watt bikes during the same time as stage 1 and stage 2 of the TDF, which this year starts in Yorkshire.

Riders will then compare times with the winning team of each day’s stage will win tickets for an event at the Dome and a VIP Bawtry Paintball Package.

As well as lots of pedal power, there will be fun family entertainment including French-themed food & wine stalls, live music and a smoothie-making bike to add a certain ‘joie de vivre.’

Members of the Bawtry Retailers Association including Eastside Magazine, Robinsons of Bawtry, Ziniz , Bawtry Gym, The China Rose and Coco Ice are all taking part.

“This is going to be a fantastic event for everyone to come along, soak up the atmosphere and cheer on the different teams on both days,” said Peter Bradley, Aurora campaign manager.

“Each team and rider is raising sponsorship money to help Aurora continue to support local men and women affected by cancer and their families,”

There are still a few places left for businesses to submit a team of ten riders for either of the two days. Each team that signs up will also receive a free Bawtry Paintball package to help with their team building skills.
