A charity walk held in memory of a schoolgirl who died after a severe asthma attack has so far raised almost £6,000.

George Edwards, Ben Graham and Hugh Zwolinski organised and took part in last month’s 34-mile walk from St Peter and St Paul School in Chesterfield to the top of Kinder Scout in Edale.

The inspirational 12-year-olds were remembering their treasured friend Natalya Kumar-Lee, who unexpectedly lost her life just days before her 12th birthday last autumn, as well as raising money for Asthma UK and the Children’s Bereavement Centre.

Natalya’s father Kumar Muthukumarappan, who works at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, said: “Twenty-four people walked on the fourth and final day and Katherine, George’s mum, bought a cake for Natalya’s birthday. We cut it on the top of Kinder. We talked a lot about Natalya. There were tears.”

Natalya had been head girl at St Peter and St Paul School and had many circles of friends both in Chesterfield and nearer to her home in Worksop.
