Volunteers who have helped raised thousands of pounds for the poppy appeal have been recognised for their hard work.

Seven people who help sell poppies each year for the Royal British Legion were part of a presentation evening in Letwell, which was attended by Lord Scarborough

Each volunteer sells poppies door-to-door in the Woodsetts, Firbeck and Letwell and Gildingwells area.

Elsie Gostling, from Guildingwell, was presented with a brooch and certificate for five decades of volunteering.

Sarah Lee, from Firbeck, and Bessie Brewer from Woodsetts both received merit bars and brooches, culminating in their 45 year merit bar.

Mike Hall, from Woodsetts, was given a 30 year medal plus 35 year and 40 year merit bars, while Christine Roberts, also from Woodsetts, received her 30 year broach.

Jenny Tollhurst from Firbeck, got her 20 year badge and Eirlys Earp from Woodsetts received her 10 year certificate.

Nigel Lee, poppy organiser for the area, said: “It’s great that they are able to get out come rain or shine and raise money.”
