VIDEO: Lorry inferno on A1 roundabout

A MAJOR lorry fire caused flames and smoke to billow above the A1 roundabout at Blyth on Tuesday.

Firefighters from Worksop, Harworth, Retford, Misterton, Edinwinstowe and Newark were battling the blaze on the roundabout at Bawtry Road.

One man was taken to hospital but it is not yet known whether he is seriously injured.

Chemicals are believed have spilled from the lorry and special 'thinning' methods were used to contain the fire.

Fire crews were on the scene from about 12.20pm and called for more support.

Temperatures were reported to be so high that manhole covers were being blown into the air.
