WORKSOP’S The Crossing is gearing up to welcome one of the UK’s top young concert organists, Keith Hearnshaw, on Saturday.

Keith Hearnshaw plays The Crossing’s three manual Makin Westmorland organ with a balanced and imaginative musical programme drawn from films, light and serious classics.

Chosen by the Royal College of Organists (RCO) as one of its then youngest Fellows, he provided the soundtrack for the RCO’s joint venture with the University of Bradford to popularise the magical sounds of a pipe organ to young people.

The short video ‘Dan and the Magic Musician’ will be shown during the concert and promises to show why a quality organ is described a the ‘King of Instruments’ with its fascinating ability to reproduce orchestral sounds in the hands of an excellent organist.

A Crossing spokesman said: “Hearnshaw provides an engaging style and interaction with his audience, not simply technical and interpretational musical brilliance. His friendly approach and broad West Midlands accent are the antidote to any image that might portray organists as stuffy.”

“Don’t be fooled by the flowery waistcoat – underneath it dwells an uber-talented musician. Come and watch his hands and feet flying!”

Tickets for the 7.30pm show on Saturday 17th November are priced £8, £7 concessions and £4 for under-16s and can be bought from The Crossing’s Welcome Desk, by calling 01909 475421.
