Todwick: A57 crash victim still in ‘critical condition’

At around 1.30pm on Saturday 14th June, a black BMW 3 series was travelling along the A57, Worksop Road, from Todwick towards Worksop.

At the same time, a yellow Vauxhall Astra van and a white Vauxhall Astra estate were travelling on the opposite side of the road, towards Todwick, before the accident happened.

Four other people including 14-year-old boy, a 46-year-old woman, a 45-year-old man and a 41-year-old man were also taken to hospital with injuries.

A police spokesperson said: “The driver of the BMW is still very much in a life threatening condition at this stage.”

Todwick parish councillor, Rebecca Carter, was riding her horse close to where the collision occured.

She said: “I was riding my horse at the time it happened and I heard a bang and I looked and saw a small yellow car come through the hedge and drop ten-foot.”

“I got off my horse and alerted my husband, Andrew, who is an officer for Notts Police, and called for an ambulance.”

“He came out and gave the man in the BMW CPR.”

Rebecca said that this is the second time that a car has come through her hedge and dropped down and she is concerned that drivers are not adhering to the 50mph speed limit.

She added: “You can still see the gap in the hedge from the first time it happened.”

“After only recently being re-opened, the road is not safer as promised and the roundabout has actually made the road much faster and motorists do not stick to the speed restriction.”

“Drivers are now taking the roundabout at 30mph because the traffic lights have gone.”

“Whereas before drivers were starting from a standstill position.”
