Lynx Black Belt Academy in Retford hosted their fourth annual inter house competition in support of the Bassetlaw Games Rio 2016.

Bringing a celebration and demonstration of martial arts skills and knowledge displayed with an array of colour, spirit and passion.

More than 60 students from Retford and surrounding areas competed in various categories open to all ages and capabilities, from white belt to black belts.

With judging and scoring taking place on the mats and head table, it was always going to be extremely close in all categories, to the point that on three occasions, seven competitors had to battle it out for the top three places.

Master Andrew Blinston, head instructor at the Lynx Academy, commented: “Three words I continuously repeat throughout my students’ training are belief, challenge and commitment and each and every one of competing was a true champion of a martial arts spirit.“

Fellow instructor Rachel Blinston also thanked the event’s sponsors: Spencers on the Square, Morgan’s Wholesales, Broom-wagon Velo Cafe, Brad Bradley personal trainer, RAM Motors, Mygym retford, Captain Jacks and Innorthnotts.
