Decorating his garden for spring is “simples” for one Worksop pensioner – who has created his very own Meerkat Manor.
After seeing Meerkat Manor on television, Bob Carnall now decorates his garden with dozens of meerkat figures every year.
Bob, of Burns Road, Kilton, has about 40 ornaments which he uses to make a display in his garden.
The 72-year-old said: “After Meerkat Manor was on television, I got stuck on meerkats. I went out and brought a couple and from then on every time I saw one I would buy it.
Bob does not decorate his garden for anyone but himself – but does get people coming to see it each year.
He said: “I got told off by a three-year-old who knocked on my door to ask why I didn’t have a Robin Hood one – so I went out and got it.”
Bob normally puts the figures of the animal – made famous by the insurance company’s TV advert with the catchphrase “simples” – out each February.
However, bad weather has meant he has only just managed to put them out this year.
He said: “It takes about four hours to put them all out and even longer to put them away, as I wrap them all up.”
But once he has put everything out, they will remain until October or November, depending on the weather.
