A former drug addict who stole £600 of seafood from outside a pub said he had ‘got back in with the wrong crowd’.

Daniel Dean Kinsella, 31 of Water Lane Retford pleaded guilty at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to stealing meat and seafood belonging to Spencers Pub.

The court heard staff had arrived at the pub on July 31 to find the items missing from a van.

CCTV evidence showed two men breaking into the vehicle and Kinsella was identified along with another defendant.

The missing food was later recovered from freezers at the defendants’ homes.

Defending himself, Kinsella apologised for the theft and said he had ‘drifted in with the wrong crowd after he had started taking drugs again.

But he said he was not taking illegal drugs any more and pledged to mend his ways.

Kinsella was fined £80 with a victim surcharge of £20 and a criminal court charge of £180.
