A DINNINGTON nurse is getting prepared for a gruelling charity bike ride across Kenya.

Helen Baird from Gateford, Worksop, will be taking on the challenge in February as part of Women v Cancer.

Helen, a practice nurse at Anston Medical Centre, will be one of 100 women taking part in the five-day event which will see them cycle 400 kilometres across tricky terrain.

Presenters Dawn Porter and Aggie MacKenzie from ‘How Clean is Your House?’ are also set to take part.

After seeing an advert in a magazine, Helen decided to give it a go, inspired by her mother-in-law who lost her life to cancer.

“I’m really looking forward to it but I’ve never done anything like this before, I’ve never had the guts - I’ll be petrified,” admitted Helen.

Helen is aiming to raise at least £2800 in sponsorship, and is planning sponsored events such as a dog walk and raffle to help raise the funds.

The money will be split between three cancer charities.
