The Annual Armed Forces Day, which will formally take place on Monday June 23 at 10:30am with the Flag Raising event, gives people to show their appreciation to the men and women, past and present, of the Armed Forces, including currently serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.

The flag will be raised at 11:00am and will remain flown for a week ahead of the annual ceremony itself on Saturday June 28.

Ahead of the event, the County Council is inviting veterans to the first gathering on Monday at the County Hall and Chairman, Coun Pauline Allan, is urging the public to join them and show their appreciation.

“The UK Armed Forces defend our country and its interests every day of the year,” Allan said. “They are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers, providing security and fighting terrorism.

“I know that the people of Nottinghamshire are right behind our forces – whether they be serving troops and their families, reservists, veterans or cadets – and it would be great to see residents showing their support at our event on June 23.”
