Notts: Councty Council supporting health and wellbeing in the workplace scheme

The event is being attended by representatives from a combination of public, private and voluntary sector organisations across the county, including HR and workplace health champions and Public Health representatives, and will be used to share best practice and innovation, discuss how to improve workplace health and wellbeing, and explore the relationship between employee health and business performance.

The Office for National Statistics estimates that between April 2012 and March 2013, 107,900 (21. per cent) of Notts’ population aged 16-64 were economically inactive, with 24.8 per cent of this inactivity resulting from long-term sickness.

Nationally, employers pay on average £9 billion in sick pay and associated costs each year.

Coun Joyce Bosnjak, chairman of the Notts Health and Wellbeing Board, said: “A mentally and physically well workforce can make a huge difference to the performance of a business or workplace.”

“Employers that embrace a positive healthy workforce policy will reap the benefits of a healthier environment, giving them a real competitive edge over their rivals.”
