IT’S official - Bassetlaw Council is now being run by a tribute band to legendary rock group The Who.

Looking at the picture on the right I assume Council leader Simon Greaves and his deputy Griff ‘Postman Pat’ Wynne represent the band’s two surviving members.

All this should put paid to the scurrilous rumours doing the rounds that it is actually John Mann who’s pulling the strings at the council these days.

Apparently the reason the council leader and his deputy are draped in the Union Jack is that they have vowed to fly the flag over the Queen’s Buildings at ALL times.

Coincidentally, Bassetlaw’s MP has been calling for this exact same thing to happen for quite a while now.

Just a coincidence, I’m sure. Pure coincidence.

But I know there’s some cynical people out there who will read too much into such things.

For instance, some folk would have jumped to all sorts of conspiracy theories when they read

John Mann say in his column last week that he’s been working with Coun Greaves to initiate a taskforce to tackle youth unemployment in Bassetlaw.

What’s wrong with our local MP and council working together? They’re both on the same side, they’re all democratically elected to serve Bassetlaw.

Just because they’re working together doesn’t automatically mean John Mann’s now calling all the shots.

What do YOU think?
