No small change

WHY do staff in shops get in such a huff when you don’t have the correct change?

I’m sick of being asked: “Haven’t you got anything smaller?” every time I hand over a £20 or £50 note to pay for something.

No! I don’t have anything smaller. I don’t carry anything less than a 20.

I’m the customer and I’m trying to PAY for your goods, to keep you in a job, so be grateful for for my custom rather than huffing and puffing and tutting and scowling at me.

I would have thought shops could do with all the cash they can get during these austere times.
