WORK has started on the second phase of the Canch upgrading scheme, officially known as the Worksop Waterside Gateway.
The work covers a range aspects, from new bridge link to the Creative Village to watercourse improvements and biodiversity pond area, as well as a new piazza area to the rear of the library.
This phase will cost a total of £360,000, of which £204,000 is a grant through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Around £200,000 from the Environment Agency has also been committed to fund flood mitigation works.
Deputy council leader and cabinet member for community prosperity Coun Keith Isard said: “It is exciting to see the Council’s commitment to bringing the green heart of Worksop back to life going forward,” he said.
“Judging by the popularity of the fountain pool and the appointment of the park rangers, the plans that were developed following the public consultation process in 2009 are definitely what people want.
