WHITWELL Local History Group: Mr Malcolm Walpole gave an illustrated talk on his trip to the land of the Incas. The Incas were an ancient civilisation and the city of Machu Picchu had escaped the ravages of the Spanish conquest in the 16th century so it is still possible to see evidence of their superb skills as stonemasons. The city of Cuzco had not been so lucky and many of the Inca buildings had been destroyed and typical Spanish yellow and white buildings had been built in their place. The Museum had exhibits of pottery in glorious colours and there was a repository for human bones with skulls exhibiting early brain operations using the trapanning method.

Ken Keeton will give a talk on 20th November.
