BASSETLAW Hill & Mountain Club: Held their 12th AGM last month. The outgoing Chairman, Malcolm Barnes opened the meeting and summarised the interesting year the club had had including walks, scrambles and climbs in the English, Welsh and Scottish mountains. There then followed the election of officers, with Charles Skeavington as chairman, Clare Buxton as secretary and Brian Sanders as treasurer. The other members of the committee are Andy Phipps, Chris Drabble, Mick Kent and Phil Jones. After this a new club challenge was launched. Its target is for members to climb all 42 of the historic county tops of England by the time of the next AGM. The 2012 programme includes four hut weekends, two European trips alongside the normal mix of exciting and interesting walks, scrambles and climbs, returning to old favourites and exploring some new areas including one in North Yorkshire that requires special permission from the Army to cross an active tank firing range. The annual photo competition was won by Mel Middleton. Malcolm produced a light hearted mountain and Christmas themed quiz which was won by Brian.
