WORKSOP

ARTISTS Of Worksop: Members of the society meet every Wednesday 9am-12noon for practical work and general help and discussion. BASSETLAW Amputee Group: Meets every second Tuesday of the month, 10am at The Crossing Church, Worksop. Provides free impartial advice and support to amputees, their carers, friends and family.

BASSETLAW Cardiac Support (Affiliated to The British Heart Foundation): Open to anyone, and their partner, who has undergone or is to undergo heart treatment of any sort and for them to share their experiences and/or concerns with people with similar experiences. All general meetings are held 2.30-4.30pm. Next meeting: Friday 2nd September with John Foster (Provincial newspaper reporter) at Retford Hospital. PARKINSON’S UK: The Bassetlaw branch continues to grow with two new members joining at the August meeting. A warm welcome was extended to them and also to the speaker Mike Smith. Mike gave a very interesting talk on his work with the WRVS and his role in the emergency planning for major disasters. Members enjoyed a coach trip to Skegness funded by the Branch and are invited to reserve a place for a late summer lunch at the Station Hotel, Worksop on Monday September 19th. Members wishing to join the group and not yet booked, Please call 01909 730629 as soon as possible. The meeting on September 6th will welcome Rachel Baxter, Parkinson’s nurse, who will report on the latest trends in the treatment of the condition and answer any questions from members. Julia Robinson (Information and Support Worker) will also attend and advise members on matters including benefits etc. There will be an Information and Support Day for Parkinson’s patients, carers and families on Wednesday September 14th at The Well Baptist Church Retford from 10am–4-15pm. Speakers will include Dr Lynne Bedford reporting on research and Charlotte Eccleston demonstrating Seated Pilates and it’s benefit to Parkinson’s. The event is free. The branch meets on the first Tuesday of every month at Worksop Cricket Club, Central Ave where new members are always very welcome. At the October meeting the Branch will present Parkinson’s UK Research Department with a cheque for £1,000 raised from collections at local supermarkets.

STEP2IT Dukeries, Kilton Forest Golf Club: Health/Leisure walks every Thursday, commencing at 10am. Walks are one mile (beginners), three miles, five miles and occasionally seven miles. The Monday Evening walks will cease on September 12th and are scheduled to restart on April 16th 2012. All walks are free and no special equipment is needed. KILTON Pet and Raptor Rescue, Plantation Hill: Open throughout the year for anyone interested in homing unwanted animals or for fostering. The rescue centre is expanding to Lambley in Nottingham and has opened a Farm Park and Falconry Centre, which will be open to the public from 10am-5pm, 7 days a week. Volunteers are always needed.
