Twenty nine ladies from a Worksop Tesco teamed up to form the Worksop Wonders in honour of those who’s lives have been touched by cancer.
On June 22, the Wonders from the Gateroad Tesco completed the 5k Clumber Park Race for Life challenge and raised just over £700 of the £177,000 that was raised in total from the event in a year that they was ‘really important’ to them.
Although not all the ladies ran the high-profile race, the Worksop’s very own Wonders all crossed the line shortly after the hour, but as the Gardian was told, the fundraising does not stop there for the local supermarket.
“It is something that we do every year, but this one was really important to us this year,” Amanda Copeland, a food manager who co-organised the event Julie Snow, said. “We all know somebody that suffers with cancer or has just been diagnosed with it and we just wanted to do our bit.
“The response we have had from our colleagues has been fantastic and it’s gaining more interest every year. We want to help out in anyway we can to help to find a cure.
“We’re going to have a big display to thank everybody and still look to raise more money. There will be more of us next year.”
