A 17-year-old rape suspect will have his case heard at the crown court.

The youth, who can not be named for legal reasons, is charged with raping and assaulting a female jogger in Worksop.

Police said the victim, aged 51, remains in hospital more than a week after the alleged attack on the evening of Tuesday 1st April 2014.

Mansfield magistrates deemed their sentencing powers insufficient to deal with the case when the teen appeared before them on Tuesday 8th April.

Instead they sent his case to Nottingham Crown Court where the defendant will appear again on 22nd April.

The case was adjourned and the teen, of no fixed address, was remanded into custody.
