VIDEO: Council leader reacts to Vesuvius news

Waiting for Video...

Bassetlaw Council leader Simon Greaves has welcomed the news that the Vesuvius development in Worksop has finally been given the go ahead.

Plans for a supermarket and sports facility that were initially announced in 2009 by developers CEG were given planning permission this week by Secretary of State Eric Pickles, after a second public inquiry.

Greaves told the Guardian in our video interview at the site that it would provide a major boost for the town, and it was a victory for the council.

He also refused to rule out the possibility of a ground for Worksop Town Football Club on the site, but did warn that extra funding would be needed – as the £800,000 Section 106 funding would not be sufficient to build a ground as good as the one at Sandy Lane.
