A YOUNG swimmer has gained the backing from Retford-based Cooke & Mason in his quest to be selected for Team GB.
At just 16 Josh Stephenson-Ganner, who lives near Newark, is already the Senior Regional Champion for 1500m freestyle. Earning this title back in May this year, he was the youngest in the race and, only a year previously, he had broken his collar bone in three places.
An inspiring talent Josh, known to his friends as Bob, is also currently the Notts Junior Champion for both the 400m and 1500m freestyle and was short-listed for the Newark and Sherwood Council’s Junior Sportsman of the Year this year.
Josh trains six days a week, early morning and night, but when not in the pool himself or studying for A Levels, he remarkably finds time to coach. Having attained his Teaching Level 1 qualification, Josh helps develop the young swimmers at the Retford Swimming Club and at Nova Centurian in Nottingham.
Early next year Josh jets off to a training camp in Fuerteventura with the Nova Centurian swimming squad, Notts Elite Swim Squad, in preparation for the Regional Championships in May where he will try and retain his title.
Cooke & Mason look forward to following Josh’s progess closely and supporting him with his swimming pursuit and wish him the best of luck.
