There were free cupcakes and horse and carriage rides around the town centre with our “London Guardsmen”.

Charlotte Toplass, assistant manager of Marshall’s Yard, said “It was a great atmosphere on Saturday with people enjoying the dry weather and what was on offer on our monthly market.

“Plenty of people enjoyed watching the Trooping of the Colour on the TV in the fountain area.

“The Union Jack flags and bunting were flying high in celebration of Her Majesty’s special birthday.

“We’ll now be replacing that with bunting for the European football Championships, as we prepare to show today’s England vs Wales game on the TV.”

Elsewhere, residents at Foxby Court Care Home in Gainsborough enjoyed a visit from children at Morton Trentside School to help them celebrate the milestone.

A street party was organised at the home and saw the dining area decorated with Union Jacks and trestle tables.

The Year Three pupils from Morton Trentside made crowns and prizes were given to all the children who took part.

Residents in Beckingham also enjoyed a street party and had a scarecrow competition, as well as music from the Gainsborough Grammar school choir, a teddy bears picnic, barbecue, face painting, games and an afternoon tea provided by the Friendship Group.

The winning scarecrow was “Birthday Tea Party”, made by Sally Ann Newton.

And St Helens Church in Willingham-by-Stow rang in the day with a special bell-ringing event.
