PICS: A-level joy for Outwood Post-16 centre students

Celebrations are underway at Outwood Post 16 centre after hardworking students at the Worksop school reeled in their highest A -Level results on record.

Studious teenagers at the Valley Road sixth form maintained las year’s pass rate of 99.1 per cent with 44 per cent of pupils hitting A*-B grades- an increase on 2015’s record year.

AS Level students also performed well, with 20 percent of pupils achieving A*-A grades.

Associative executive principle, Dr Philip Smith, told the Guardian: “We are absolutely over the moon with the results, which are testament to the hard work of pupils and staff alike.

“The results are particularly impressive after the introduction of the new AS Level, which is thought to be a lot more difficult than the original.”

“We couldn’t be prouder of our students and wish them all the best of luck.”

On Thursday morning the centre was a hub of activity as students and tutors congratulated each other on the results.

Hannah Mulvey, 18, achieved an A* grade in maths and secured a place at Sheffield University.

She told the Guardian: “I was expecting the worst, we all were. None of us got any sleep last night. We’re all just so relieved and happy to have done well.

“To say it’s been stressful is an understatement, but it’s done now.”

Twin sisters Molly and Daisy Leigh received A-C grades in their chosen subjects and said they were excited to be starting University in September.

Molly said: “We are ecstatic. It’s been pretty nerve-wracking waiting for the results. I am going to York. St John University and Daisy is going to Swansea University.

“We grew up in Worksop and although we will miss the town and our families, we can’t wait to see what’s out there and what the future holds.”

The top achieving student was Emily Simpson who attained three A* grades in Psychology, Sociology and Health and Social Care.

She will now study Sociology at the University of Leeds.

Chistopher Bell, Joshua Johnson, Rhys Thompsonand Alice Walker all achieved three Grade A passes, all securing places at their chosen universities.
