A North Anston man has appeared in court today (Tuesday 1st October) charged with drink driving after a pensioner died following a collision.
Nicholas Crane, 41, of Middleton Avenue appeared before Rotherham magistrates over the incident which happened on Wednesday 11th September.
Police say that at around 10.50pm Crane’s green Toyota Avensis was in collision with a blue Citroen Picasso driven by 82-year-old Reginald Ensor.
It happened in Kingsforth Lane, Rotherham, at its junction with Sandy Lane.
Mr Ensor, from Swinton, was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, and was discharged.
But on Thursday 19th September he was re-admitted and sadly passed away on Tuesday 24th September.
Crane was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol and without insurance, and subsequently charged.
He entered no plea at today’s hearing.
Police still want to hear from anyone who saw the incident, or the manner the vehicles were driving in before the incident.
