Learn long-forgotten cookery techniques at Welbeck Estate

The opportunity to learn long-forgotten cookery techniques with one of the UK's most celebrated food scholars is one of a number of activities in store for visitors to the Welbeck Estate, near Worksop, this summer.

Food historian Ivan Day is renowned for his expertise in recreations of historic meals and table settings.

This summer, he will be teaching at The School of Artisan Food at Welbeck with two courses which will bring long-lost recipes back to life.

Students on the Historic Pies and Historic Ices courses will create a selection of ice creams, sorbets and pies spanning the centuries, drawing on Ivan’s “amazing knowledge” and using his rare antique kitchen equipment.

Ivan said: “I’m looking forward to returning to The School of Artisan Food this summer.

“Welbeck is an ideal location for me to take students on a culinary journey back through time and create historic foods.”

n The one-day workshops are set to take place on August 6 and 7 and September 3 and 4, from 9.30am to 5pm each day, costing £175. Places must be booked in advance by calling 01909 532 171.
