A Kiveton woman who defrauded almost £15,000 from care home residents could go to jail next month.

Denise Nichols, 55, of Kiveton Lane, admitted taking £14,646.84 from vulnerable residents at Wensley Street care home in Sheffield.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday (Thursday 2nd January 2014) that Nichols had worked there as deputy care manager.

The offence - fraud by abuse of position - was discovered following an audit in September last year, and it is understood the money has been repaid.

Nichols took the money from 25 residents between 2008 and 2013.

The care home, run by South Yorkshire Housing Association, provides personal care and accommodation for up to 30 people with learning disabilities.

Nichols was released on bail until Wednesday 12th February when she will be sentenced.
