Next week will be the first anniversary of the opening of Bassetlaw’s first Food Bank.
A year on it still angers me that there are people in our community so hard-up that they have to rely on food banks.
This is sort of thing you would expect in the third world, not in one of the richest and most developed countries on the planet.
But unfortunately, that’s where we are, and sadly this grim situation is unlikely to change overnight.
That said, the people who run our Food Bank deserve all the praise going.
They have worked tirelessly to ensure some of the most vulnerable local people get much needed food.
I doff my cap to them.
