Drug addict burgled Mansfield Sea Cadets twice

Adam Leach, 34,of Greetwell Road, Lincoln, admitted stealing a CCTV camera from a garage at the Sea Cadets complex on Quarry Lane, on February 26, and then returning on March 13, when he stole a computer monitor and other items, including sweets and two sets of knives.

David Miles, prosecuting, said Leach and another man had smashed a double glazed window and carried out an untidy search of the building when he returned the second time.

Leach appeared via video link from Ranby prison where he had been recalled on a previous 44 month sentence for burglary.

Sarah Neale, mitigating said: “He explains to me that back in March this year he was subject to probation and he had been complying, but he was living rough in a tent.
“Things were extremely difficult for him. He had no money to live on and he got back into taking amphetamine.

“The situation became somewhat desperate. He resorted to this offence to satisfy his amphetamine addiction.”

She said his habit had been between £5 and £10 a day but ‘unfortunately it got the better of him.’

She said the last time he had been in prison he had completed a gym qualification and hoped to get the next level.

The court heard he would remain in prison until August next year.

Magistrates gave him 112 days in custody which will be added to his current sentence, and ordered him to pay £500 compensation.
